Mr. Turkman, as he liked to be called, would travel the then gravel Provincial Road from Trenton to Morrisburg selling his Autumn Bird door to door, for twenty seven cents each. By the time the railroad was built in 1980 his bird had been renamed the Turkey, in honor of the traveling farmer who introduced his magical bird to the world. On November 27th, 1981, George Washinton was dining on an imported Turkey and was so impressed with the bird he declared a new national holiday; Thanksgiving day, for of the gratitude he felt toward the animal who had given up his life for his to continue. The next year Turkey Day again came, but the Canadians were so impressed by the title the Americans had used, they decided to steal the name. And thus we have the history of Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

</nonsense>

Shocking News

How White and Nerdy Are You?

I am far less white and nerdy than I thought, apparently.

Canadian Tire Day Tomorrow, Too

I have been a fan of the ABC program Lost since this time last year; I had purchased the first season on DVD and devoured its contents within a week. I was able to catch enough of the episodes during season two to have a good enough understanding of the story, and I even caught the finale. When the second season became available on DVD I bought it and watched the episodes I had missed, so I am quite familiar with the story thus far.

Last Wednesday I believed the season premier of lost was to air that evening. I was greatly disappointed to learn that a clip show, recapping the series from the beginning would be airing in its place. I chose to wait until this Wednesday, when actual new content is going to be aired. Speaking of new content, South Park also premiers tomorrow, and has been made using World of Warcraft, apparently.

$@r@h sp34ks 1337

This is just a 'props' post for my sister who still plays Ultima Online and wears a shirt that reads 'N3RD'. Check this page later for a picture of the end result.

32 MiB is Few

I made it down to the Hôtel Dieu today to get my eye looked at. The first person to see me was a senior medical student named Jennifer. Jennifer the senior medical student is a particularly attractive Asian girl who speaks English with a lisp, which I found completely endearing. She dyed my eye and took a look at it with the blue-light pain machine; her speculative diagnosis is that I have a viral form of pink eye. The attending Doctor booked an appointment for me tomorrow morning at the eye clinic with more equipment, which will be entertaining.

After my trip downtown I payed a visit to Derek to test out the infrastructure mode of the PSP. I downloaded the 2.71 firmware update and was quite pleased with the easy of installation. I was not so happy with the fact that it consumed most of the space available on my memory stick, and I have no idea how to remove the files. I need to pick up a USB cable tomorrow, hopefully that will help. I wanted to download the LocoRoco demo, but I have yet to register for playstation underground, so I was out of luck there.

Just Some Flesh Caught in This Big Broken Machine

Well I'm back from Toronto and staying with my parents for the time being. I'm looking for work in Kingston, anything will do for now. Something that takes advantage of my technical skills would be ideal.

In other news, Derek downloaded Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition at my request, and I bought a book to teach me the basics; it has been a long time since I have written a line of code. Markup is not code, and BASIC only barely qualifies as code. I'm happy to discover that the learning curve is more like a plane, but there is a good chance that is due to prior experience. Now I'm not actually writing anything of complexity, but it is still fun to learn something new.

Also, I wasted some money on a Playstation Portable the other day. I have adopted a pattern of buying a console when my computer is no longer up to the task of playing modern games. The day when I can no longer buy a new PC game is fast approaching, as Blood Money and Legend have shown me. So I decided to opt for a portable console this cycle. Liberty City Stories has been highly entertaining so far, and I'm thinking I'd like to get a copy of Lemmings in the near future.

The best thing about being home is I'm with my cat again, even though he bites my face. The worst thing is that I gave myself a vicious steam burn when cooking a ham the other day.

Rest In Peace Tim

Tim Wojna was one of the nicest people I knew. Tim was a fan of Led Zepplin and the works of Tolkien. He was the person I first got drunk enough to sing with unashamed; we sang Hurt by Nine Inch Nails at the top of our lungs during a field party in Kingston. Even though I hadn't seen Tim more than a handful of times in the last few years, it is shocking and outrageous that he has passed on in this manner.

Mr. Tabbara should be drawn and quartered. From the article I get the impression that he had no intent or knowledge of what he did; that doesn't matter. I hope he gets anally raped in prison.

Prey On the Luddites, do not Pray For the Luddites

I started working at the electronics retailer on this Thursday past, and I've got to tip my hat to the employees of the retail world. It is not an easy job. I arrived at the store at 13:00 ready put on my shirt and start training. Apparently my shirt was never ordered, so I was put on merchandising for the day. Another job that is not at all easy. I spent approximately five hours unpacking boxes and cataloging their contents, and putting said contents on the shelves. I spent the next few hours tagging the items that were put on the shelves; it was rather tedious. I didn't make any sales that day, because there was no user account created for me. Rather, the sales I did make were given to someone else, because I could not use the computers. Which run SCO. Squick. The next day I was tasked with further tagging, this time for the ULTIMATE FATHERS DAY SALE OF DOOM™, which was even more tedious and physically unpleasant. During the chaos I did manage to sell around $350, which I was told was fucking awful, but hey

<rant>
it was better than what people who have been there for three weeks sold, so you know what they can eat a hairy goat ball god damn it!
</rant>

Anyways, today I sold a solid $800 which is pretty god damn cool for my third day of sales, ever. Not that I really made any money personally, but whatever, temporary jobs were never meant to get you rich.

On a more pleasant note, I got a call from the human resources department of our nations wang. I passed out around 10 resumes, mostly to record, book, video game, and sex toy stores. The funny thing is I seemed to get the best reaction out of the managers of the sex toy stores; both said I should expect a call in the next couple of days for an interview. Which would be great, if the district manager of the electronics store didn't call around 20:07. I should be starting work at the electronics store on Thursday, which is great because I have a dirt haulin' gig with a landscaper on Wednesday. I really don't know weather I want to sell electroincs or sex toys though. I mean, how the hell can I choose which of the two discounts is best?

And now for the World of Warcraft stuff no one but those who play will understand. Last night I ran SFK with Deftorc (Johnny) and a bunch of guys from Ninja Looters Anonymous. I was the only caster in the party, and all of the cool drops were only usable by me, in a couple of levels that is. This evening Snowpea (Forkes) ran me through the Deadmines and I hit 18, which let me use most of the loot I snagged during the session. I also got an absurd ammount of stuff I couldn't use, which I put up on the AH, including a Siamese kitten.

o_O

Spamming Asshole Alert: shaka0070@hotmail.com

Hi Brain Spider,

I was visiting your profile today on blogger.com and thought you could use this for your blog "Spiders In My Brain".

Can you take a moment and check-out this web site remo.ved?

I believe it could be beneficial to you for hosting pictures, videos and whatever else without worrying about bandwidth usage. Not intentionally, but because the directions I was given extremely bad directions, that would have had me backtracking across half the city. I mistook Finch Station to be at Jane & Finch, when it is actually at Young & Finch. So I ended up walking the 4.x kilometers to highway 7. If I had stayed on bus 35D I would have ridden all the way to number 7, and not developed giant blisters on my feet.

So I'm getting back into the swing of World of Warcraft. I created an undead warlock on Friday, after my journey, and am within 1000xp of level 14 as of yesterday. Mr. Forkes is making it very easy for me, as he supplied me with 10 gold on my first day, which has helped me load out my skills. I am going with a demonology build, as I haven't really given the warlock a fair run in the past. Seems to me that they are pretty god damn powerful. I'm not sure how things will play out in PvP, but as far as instances go I should be able to felsen das haus.

And now apparently THE FUCKING SKY IS FALLING

I went to a job fair at the Blockbuster Video at Dundas and Keele this afternoon. I stood in line with 50+ other applicants, who were being processed by one lady; it wasn't the most well thought out job fair I have attended. I went in wearing fancy pants and shoes, and a blue button up shirt. It was a real disgusting surprise to see how many people my age turned out to be wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt. I mean seriously, we're not talking about a job interview where you wear a suit and interview over lunch, but we are talking about a job interview. You would think people would understand that it is in their best interest to not look like an asshole. By the time my turn to interview came up there were 2 other interviewers, so the process was starting to speed up. I spoke with motorcycle riding Dian for about 15 minutes, we went back and forth over the usual 5 interview questions. I left with a pretty good feeling, I think I have a good chance of getting free movie rentals pretty soon.

Off to the Park

Tits and her cat, Cassidy, moved in yesterday. Tits showed up in the early afternoon and Serenitee and I helped move her stuff inside. Her room is currently stuffed to the rim, and she will be unpacking and setting up over the next little while.

Serenitee and I were going to run to Tim Horton's for coffee and cappuccino, but it proved to be way to warm out for that. We decided to go to Price Chopper for a few groceries we needed instead; the chilly grocery store was quite welcome. I reinstalled Windows on her laptop in the afternoon and made a pizza while the hard drive was being formatted. I played Jet Grind Radio for the Dreamcast in the afternoon, which was odd since it has been years since I played. Great game as I remember. I wonder if the 360 has emulation support for Jet Set Radio future? Anyone?

What an Eyesore

This morning my bad eye was killing me, it felt extremely scratchy and irritated, like there was a piece of glass stuck in it. It seemed very light sensitive and was watering an awful lot. Serenitee convinced me to get some Visine to see if it would help and to see the optometrist. I still need to go and do that part, but for now the Visine seems to be helping. I've used a few drops throughout the day and will continue to do so tomorrow as necessary. If there is no change in a few days I'll be going to a walk in clinic, as those motherfuckers who privatized optometry really fucked me over.

Now all of you non-gamers can leave the room, this part won't interest you. I bought Star Wars Battlefront 2 around Christmas time and only very recently got a chance to play it online. I really enjoyed the skirmish mode, but it was rather easy. So I finally get online and have two major complaints; latency is handled badly as strafing feels like a slip and slide, and the team I played against REALLY sucked. I don't know if they had never played the map I was on or what the story was, but I was pretty well unchallenged. In other gaming related news, I've decided the first thing I am going to waste money on when I get my first paycheque is a new World of Warcraft card. It's been a long time since I've played, so it will be nice to rejoin Mr. Forkes. My sister should join us in September or so, which will kick ass.

Interview

I got up this morning around 10:40, so I would be well rested for my interview at 13:00. Serenitee was looking extremely hot, she was all dressed up for her photoshoot today. She ran out the door before I made coffee, which I had to down pretty quickly. I set off to my interview at 12:10 so I could look over the products before hand. The store manager was extremely impressed that I was as early as I was. We went into the back room and I knocked the interview out of the park. I've visited the city on numerous occasions over the years; to explore Wonderland as a child, to attend the Corel Linux launch conference as a teenager, and to smoke pot in Queen's Park last May. Never in my life did I think I would actually live in The Big City™, but here I am. The events that lead me to this point are irrelevant.

My hunt for work began on Tuesday, when Serenitee and I walked for 6 hours, stopping at every interesting store to drop off resumes and pick up applications. By the end we had 8 applications in hand and I had handed out 6 resumes. Wednesday was spent filling out said applications and applying online where appropriate. On Thursday afternoon I returned the applications to the Big Box Store Plaza™ which is near my house. Around 13:30 I received a call from The Source by Circuit City, and they want me to come in with ID for an interview tomorrow; FANTASTIC NEWS!
